so i know i’m obsessed with television lately, but i have a new favorite show: OPB’s colonial house.
this show is so good. i saw the final episode last night but apparently it’s been getting all sorts of press so hopefully they’ll run it again. and besides the fact that its fascinating and thought-provoking, it made me realize that i am, most definitely, still going through my mountain man phase.
this weekend started off very normal. anna’s surprise party friday night, jason time & eight episodes of smallville season two saturday, moon & sixpence saturday night. then came sunday.
met up with eric, carter, katie, jonathan and devon for eric’s birthday brunch before a trip to the coast. went home, met up with elliot, liam and jack. caravanned to some beach with a huge sand dune about a half hour from tillamook. we played “i've never” in the car, nearly peed our pants for lack of gas stations, and screamed “spring break!” out the car windows at each other every time we passed. good times.
i wanted to play in the water instead of climbing the dune (which, literally, went straight up at about an 80 degree angle). everyone else climbed up and i relaxed for a while, laying in the sun and wading in the freezing water. katie and carter came back wanting to build a sand castle, which we did for about three seconds before eric came running across the sand gasping something about jonathan, falling, a sand avalanche, and a broken collarbone. the ambulance comes, we all follow it to lincoln city. it’s just a broken bone, it’s not a tragedy, it’s almost like a party. we waltz in, laughing as katie tells us that all she could hear in the ambulance was jonathan yelling “this is my favorite shirt and i’ll be damned if i’m going to let you cut it off,” seven twenty-somthings in rolled up jeans and flip flops, covered in sand, and find that the only other people in the emergency room waiting area are a family who has just discovered that their seven-year-old son has died.
after that, katie sent us to get some dinner. we went to some crappy tourist trap that elliot insisted on and ate sourdough bowls full of clam chowder, then picked up katie and jonathan and drove home. did not arrive back home until almost midnight. it was an interesting birthday celebration.
